Resurrection and Eternal Life According to the Bible

The Bible's hope is that God raises the dead and gives imperishable life through His promised Redeemer. Eternal life is not merely endless existence; it is restored life with God, secured by the Redeemer's resurrection and completed in the resurrection and renewal still to come. Resurrection is God's act of raising the dead to life. Chapter 5 of The Salvation of God centers on the empty tomb and the declaration in John 11:25–26 that the promised Redeemer is the resurrection and the life. The gospel therefore answers death itself, not only guilt.

First Corinthians 15:1–8 treats the Redeemer's death, burial, resurrection, and appearances as the heart of the gospel. His resurrection confirms God's saving purpose and becomes the firstfruits of the resurrection promised to his people (1 Corinthians 15:20–23).

Chapter 6 examines life and death through Saul's transformation and the hope announced by the apostles. Salvation is not complete if death keeps its final claim. Romans 6:3–11 joins present newness of life with participation in the Redeemer's death and resurrection, while 1 Corinthians 15 looks toward an imperishable body.

John 5:24 and John 17:3 describe eternal life as a present relationship with God as well as a future hope. Believers begin to pass from death to life now through faith, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, but they still await the full removal of corruption, mortality, grief, and pain.

Chapter 9 holds mercy and judgment together. Acts 17:31 connects the Redeemer's resurrection with God's appointed day of righteous judgment. Revelation 20–22 then places resurrection and judgment before the renewed creation, where death is defeated and God dwells with his people.

Resurrection hope calls people to repent, remain faithful, resist sin's deceitfulness, comfort those who grieve, and serve without believing that death makes obedience meaningless. First Corinthians 15:58 concludes that labor done faithfully before God is not in vain.
